First detection of resistance to deltamethrin in Spanish populations of the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata

چکیده

Abstract The control of the Mediterranean fruit fly (Medfly), Ceratitis capitata , in citrus orchards Spain is mainly based three insecticides (spinosad, lambda-cyhalothrin and deltamethrin) liberation sterile males. However, Medfly compromised by development resistance detection spinosad-resistant alleles field populations. We report here, for first time, to deltamethrin populations collected fields under different management strategies, including MagnetMed™ traps coated with this insecticide and/or spinosad used as bait sprays, even obtained from non-treated fields. Two deltamethrin-resistant strains (BP-delta Rfg-delta) were generated descendants some that showed lower susceptibility deltamethrin. Both low traps, moderate Ceratipack lacked cross-resistance lambda cyhalothrin. Our data suggest was mediated P450 enzymes, since bioassays synergists PBO reverted a population laboratory strains, whereas effect DEF DEM minor no mutations found VGSC gene. inheritance both completely recessive, autosomic did not fit mortality expected recessive character monogenic or digenic model. also presented fitness cost terms males’ weight, females’ longevity lifetime fecundity, more pronounced BP-strain than Rfg-delta strain. results highlight need implement strategies prevent failures.

Ecological niches and potential geographical distributions of Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata) and Natal fruit fly (Ceratitis rosa)

Fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) are globally distributed picture-winged flies of variable size. Tephritidae, with > 4000 species described, ranks among the most diverse groups of true flies (White & Elson-Harris, 1992; Thompson, 1999). They are almost all phytophagous, with larvae developing in the seedbearing organs of plants. Although they are commonly named ‘fruit flies’, larval developme...

Site-specific recombination for the modification of transgenic strains of the Mediterranean fruit fly Ceratitis capitata.

Insect transgenesis is mainly based on the random genomic integration of DNA fragments embedded into non-autonomous transposable elements. Once a random insertion into a specific location of the genome has been identified as particularly useful with respect to transgene expression, the ability to make the insertion homozygous, and lack of fitness costs, it may be advantageous to use that locati...

Area-Wide Suppression of the Mediterranean Fruit Fly, Ceratitis capitata, and the Oriental Fruit Fly, Bactrocera dorsalis, in Kamuela, Hawaii

The United States Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service initiated an area-wide fruit fly management program in Hawaii in 2000. The first demonstration site was established in Kamuela, Hawaii, USA. This paper documents suppression of the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), and the oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) (Diptera: Tephritidae), in...

Isolation and characterization of the Xanthine dehydrogenase gene of the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata.

Xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH) is a member of the molybdenum hydroxylase family of enzymes catalyzing the oxidation of hypoxanthine and xanthine to uric acid. The enzyme is also required for the production of one of the major Drosophila eye pigments, drosopterin. The XDH gene has been isolated in many species representing a broad cross section of the major groups of living organisms, including th...

Functional Morphology of the Mouthparts of the Adult Mediterranean Fruit Fly, Ceratitis capitata

Food-based attractants incorporating an insecticide are an important component of area-wide control programmes for the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Tephritidae). This study was carried out to understand the feeding mechanism of adults of this species. Mouthparts of C. capitata are similar in general structure to those of another Tephritid genus, Bactrocera, ...
